Scawsby small garden with gabion steps and water feature

This project in Scawsby involved creating a multi-level garden with distinctive gabion steps and a water feature. A new patio, timber fencing, and an outdoor bar area complete the space.

Materials
Gabion baskets, natural stone cobbles, dark grey paving slabs, horizontal timber fencing, timber pergola, brickwork, timber for the bar/shed
Work
Multi-level garden design, gabion steps, water feature installation, patio laying, timber fencing, pergola construction, outdoor bar/shed build
Duration
[ ] weeks

The garden features a split-level design, with a main patio area accessible from the house. Below this, a lawn area is bordered by a second patio and the unique gabion structures.

The steps connecting the upper patio to the lower garden are built using gabion baskets filled with natural stone cobbles, topped with dark grey paving slabs. These steps curve gracefully around a built-in water feature, also integrated into gabion construction, which spills into a pebble-filled basin.

New horizontal timber slatted fencing encloses the garden, providing privacy. A timber pergola extends from the house wall, offering a shaded area. An outdoor bar area, constructed from brickwork and timber, includes a serving hatch and a small counter.

The paving throughout the upper and lower patio areas consists of dark grey slabs, providing a clean, contemporary finish. The combination of gabions, timber, and dark paving creates a modern, low-maintenance garden.
