The original garden in Cusworth presented an opportunity to create distinct, level zones for outdoor living. The site required significant groundwork to establish varied areas for entertaining and relaxation, leading to a comprehensive redesign of the rear space.
We laid approximately 90m2 of dark grey slate paving for the main patio and steps, creating a generous, hardwearing surface. Retaining walls were constructed using gabions, filled with Scottish cobbles, to define the different levels. Horizontal timber slat screening was installed along the boundaries, providing privacy and a contemporary backdrop, and a timber pergola was also built.
The finished garden features multiple usable areas, including a generous patio space for dining and lounging, and a lower lawn. Integrated lighting was installed throughout, including wall-mounted lights, strip lighting, and uplighters, allowing the garden to be enjoyed after dark. A water feature is built into the main gabion wall.
The combination of materials, from the dark grey slate and textured gabions to the warm timber screening, creates a modern aesthetic. New turf was laid to complete the lower garden area, alongside new planting in defined beds.
